My encounter with video game music composer Jerry Martin
So cool: last March I sent an email to Jerry Martin, who composed music for SimCity 4:
Hi Jerry,
As a long-time fan of the SimCity series, I would just like to thank you for composing Shape Shifter, a track that played during God Mode in SimCity 4. No other song has proven as durable nor as soothing as it. It has always helped me calm down and renew my sense of optimism in this world. This email is 8 years delayed.
Regards,
Rico Mossesgeld
I never thought he would reply. But this morning he did!
Hi Rico,
Thanks for your email. Sorry it took me so long to get back to you. There’s really no excuse but I was busy with a sound design job for Namco (Splatterhouse) and then I moved etc. etc. I hope you understand.
Glad you like the music and thanks for letting me know.
PS: Although I don’t use it very often, Please “friend me” on facebook if you’d like. [link to his profile]
Thanks,
Jerry
Splatterhouse probably represents a stylistic change for the composer. Most of Jerry Martin’s video game music portfolio is for “family-friendly” games like the SimCity series and The Sims.
